Aviation System Standards (AVN) provides services to ensure the standard development, evaluation, and certification of airspace systems, procedures, and equipment for customers worldwide.
The National Flight Procedures Office (NFPO) designs and develops instrument flight procedures (IFP's) for use by air carrier and general aviation aircraft. The Flight Inspection Operations Division operates a fleet of jet and turbo-prop aircraft in order to conduct airborne evaluation of electronic signals from ground-based navigation aids that are used for aircraft departure, enroute, and arrival flight procedures. Periodic flight inspection ensures the integrity and accuracy of instrument approaches and other flight procedures. The Maintenance Operations Division provides maintenance and engineering services for the FAA's flight inspection fleet. The division designs, develops, and installs complex automated flight inspection systems and new navigation systems. In addition to maintaining the fleet of flight inspection aircraft, the division provides services to other U.S. Government flight programs as well as to foreign governments through international agreements. The maintenance and engineering staff is approved as a certified repair station in accordance with Federal Aviation Regulations Part 145 and ISO 9001 quality standards. [more...]
The National Aeronautical Charting Office (NACO) plans and directs the construction, printing, and publication of all aeronautical charts and publications that support commercial, military, and general aviation. NACO's products include instrument and visual charts, terminal procedure publications, as well as digital aeronautical data that support satellite-based and aircraft flight management systems.
